For this boy, the best medicine against cancer was a golden retriever.

  • by James and Zeke
  • Las Vegas, NV

When James was in the hospital battling Glioblastoma Multiforme Brain Cancer, he always looked forward to two things: going home and getting a visit from Zack, the hospital’s therapy dog.

Zack’s visits took James’s mind off what he was going through. Zack made James feel happy and safe. And seeing as the two would often be found settled in for a cozy nap together, you could say the feeling was mutual. James believes that it’s important to be nice to everyone, because it encourages people to treat each other with kindness.

As James’s treatment came to an end, he knew he wanted a dog just like Zack.

But in leaving the hospital, James also had to leave Zack. Serendipity would intervene, however. Not long after, James got a call from a golden retriever rescue organization; a red golden just like Zack needed a home. And his name was Zeke.

Today, James is healthy, Zeke is happy, and the two are nearly inseparable. “The great thing about having a pet is you will always feel protected, and you will always have a friend.”—James.
