Climate action starts with humankindness.

Our net-zero pledge

The effects of climate change can harm everyone but disproportionately threaten the health and well-being of people living in lower-income areas. In response, CommonSpirit Health® has made an industry-leading commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, with an interim target to cut operational emissions in half by 2030.

Want to get involved?

When you take climate action for the planet, you’re helping to create better health for us all. And you’d be surprised at how much you can do right now. Here are ten ways to get started.

At home

Use less heating and cooling. Switch to LED light bulbs. Buy energy-efficient appliances. Wash your laundry with cold water, and hang to dry.

Out and about

Leave your car in the garage and make a healthier choice by walking or riding a bike. For longer distances, take a train, hop on a bus, or join a car pool.

On your plate

It takes lots of energy, land, and water to produce meat and dairy. So eat more veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. It’s good for you, and the planet.

In the air

Airliners produce huge amounts of carbon emissions. So when you need to travel, consider trains instead of planes. Or skip the trip and opt for virtual meetings.

The four Rs

Reduce (buy fewer things), reuse (shop secondhand), repair (give broken things a second life), and recycle everything you can.

Waste less

It takes a lot of energy to grow, package, and transport food—and uneaten food in landfills produces greenhouse gas. So eat what you buy, and compost leftovers.

Switch your source

If your home’s energy comes from oil, coal, or gas, look into the cost (and energy) savings potential of renewable sources like solar or wind.

Drive electric

Electric cars are cheaper and better than ever. The environmental impact of the electricity they use is far less than with a gas- or diesel-powered car.

Choose eco-friendly

You can help slow climate change just by choosing to buy products from companies that are committed to cutting their gas emissions and waste.

Speak up

Talk to family and friends about the health impact of climate change. Support businesses that do their part. Tell local and national leaders you want bold change.
